Jesus spoke with Elijah and Moses. Luke 9:30
Peter, James and John were there as well. They were witnesses to the appearance of these men of antiquity. Although they were told not to speak of it until later, they too saw the transformation in Christ’s countenance. His clothing “shone as the sun” and his face and body became radiant.
As if what they saw was not enough evidence as to the deity of their Lord, their ears heard a voice from Heaven. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob spoke through the clouds saying, “This is my beloved son, hear him.”
Of what purpose was this majestic mountaintop meeting? Moses, back from the grave after 1,700 years and Elijah, come down from heaven after 1,000, had come to speak to Christ of his upcoming death. We often fail to remember that Jesus knew of the events that were coming. He knew of them in eternity past, just as He knew of the victory that would reign throughout eternity future.
Let us never forget the plans that Jesus discussed that day with Moses and Elijah. Plans He had made
for you and for me.

Jesus walked on water. Matthew 14:25
It had been a long day and Jesus stayed on shore refresh himself with prayer. He sent the others to the other side of the lake. As darkness came, the disciples saw a form coming towards the boat walking on the water! At first they were fearful, but then Peter realizes that it was Jesus. Can you imagine his astonishment?
Peter cries out, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” As the story continues, Peter does walk towards Christ, but the strong wind and waves broke His faith. Doesn’t it seem like any little disturbance does that? It breaks our faith and we begin to sink.
The lesson here seems simple, keep your eyes on Christ. There are others too. Don’t get of the boat in haste and self-absorbance. Wait on the Lord. He is on His way. Be patient. But when you do dive in and find yourself sinking, cry out to Jesus. He will pick you up and carry you across that raging sea to safe harbor.
How about we let Jesus be the one who walks on water and we just trust in Him to do the miracles? He’ll do that and more…
for you and for me.

Jesus taught us to pray. Luke 11:2-4
Jesus said, “This is how you should pray.”
“Father, may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
Give us each day the food we need.
and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those
who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation.”
Our prayers don’t need to be poetic and wordy, fancy or extravagant. Our prayers need to begin by addressing the God of creation whose name we should revere. They need to seek His will and His kingdom, not that of this world. Our prayers should be for provision and sustenance, not wealth and riches untold.
We should seek to forgive and be forgiven and love our fellow man. Finally, we should ask to be directed away from sin. When the words won’t come and you want to pray, remember these words that Jesus taught us,
you and me.
