Forty Things That Jesus Did For You and Me: 21 ~ 23

p21 Jesus wept
21. Jesus Wept. John 11:35

“Jesus wept”. The shortest verse in the Bible, yet the story it tells goes on forever. The story of His love for us. The story of His compassion, His sacrifice, His dedication.

His heart broke knowing that his friend Lazarus had died. His heart broke that the family would rather have Lazarus here on earth than in Paradise waiting on Jesus.  His heart broke for all the reasons He knew and we don’t.  His knowledge is omniscient. He knows all things, sees all things, has experienced all things. His heart broke showing that He had all the feelings of man while still being ALL God.

The scriptures have other things to say about weeping:

Romans 12:15
Rejoice with those who rejoice, mourn with those who mourn.

Luke 6:21b
Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.

Psalms 30:5b
Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

Ecclesiastes 3:4
A time to weep and a time to laugh.

You’ll read more of weeping in the next section. This weeping of Jesus; however, shows of His deep love for us.

Jesus wept. He did that for you and for me.

p22 Jesus forgave people of their sins 22. Jesus forgave people of their sins. Luke 7:48

More weeping, except in this case it is the woman at Jesus’ feet who weeps. Her sins were great. Her life was awful and she was embarrassed. Only she understood  the level of forgiveness.

Jesus told the parable of the two workers who were indebted. One man owed 50 silver coins the other owed 500. After both were forgiven of their debt, “which of them will love him most?” was Jesus’ question.
How many of us come before Jesus with such remorse that we weep, that we would wash his feet with our hair and anoint his head with precious oils? Perhaps we should take the gift of forgiveness much more seriously. After all, Jesus died on a cross that our sins might be forgiven.

Jesus said, “Thy sins are forgiven.” “Thy faith hath saved thee, go in peace.”

What a great thing He has done for us,

for you and for me.

p23 Jesus told parables 23. Jesus told parables. Matthew 13:3

When Jesus was questioned for his compassion on the immoral woman, His responded in a parable. Who would feel more forgiveness, the one owing 50 silver coins or the one owing 500? If put in those terms, most could understand.

The parables Jesus told were to build understanding. Jesus spoke of the unbelieving when he said, “because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand”. The wisdom of the parable is lost to disinterested hearers and rebels at heart.

Parables are meant to bring truth to light and to make a truth clearer by comparing that truth with something that is of ordinary life circumstances. They can create a desire to learn more, give instruction or rebuke, and they are always truth filled.

Jesus told many parables. He wanted us to understand. He wanted us to search for more and deeper knowledge. He did that

for you and for me.
