The Names of Jehovah ~ Tsidkenu

This series shall expound upon the names attributed to God, by God, throughout the Old Testament. There are others; however, these are the ones which are used in combination with the name of JEHOVAH. Through these descriptors, His almighty character and identity are revealed. Just as they gave comfort and reassurance to the Israelites and their descendents, so too are they relevant today in encouraging believers to seek and know the true JEHOVAH, the great I AM.

JEHOVAH-TSIDKENU
"The Lord Our Righteousness"
"Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." (Jeremiah 23:5-6)

This scripture found in Jeremiah is a beautiful prophetic message. The Lord promises that one shall come that is our righteousness. Jesus is the spotless, sinless, guiltless, and blameless lamb. The only acceptable sacrifice for the sins of every man. We cannot become righteous on our own. As we read in Romans 3:10 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one".

When God looks at man, He sees the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, delivered through the redemptive blood of Jesus. God sees into the heart of the believer. He overlooks our sins, casting them as far as the east is from the west, and sees within us, Jesus, without fault or blemish. (Romans 10:10) "For it is by believing in his heart that a man becomes right with God; and with his mouth he tells others of his faith, confirming his salvation."
The following treatise from Titus 3:4-8 is a perfect summation:

"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone."
