“Reuben Canyon Rising
with The Twenty Third Psalm”
by Marion W. Richardson

Touching Christian Children’s picture book by award-winning author presents the comfort of the Twenty Third Psalm in an endearing tale to children of all ages.
In the recently self-published book titled Reuben Canyon Rising with The Twenty Third Psalm, award winning author Marion W. Richardson weaves the tale of how, in the loss of their husbandman, the sheep and little Shebet, the sheep dog, find comfort in the scripture of The Twenty Third Psalm.
Using her simple yet whimsical woodblock illustrations the author/illustrator presents the circumstances facing the pasture animals as they must move the fold to higher ground for a fresh, new pasture. Richardson shares in the “Forward” that it is actually she who has lost her husband bringing an intensely personal touch to the circumstances behind the story.

With a gentle respectful tone, this oft-published author, addresses the death as she states that “their beloved caretaker had dropped to the ground as his spirit rose to Heaven.”  She is empathetic to the mourner’s tears as she describes the manner in which “rushes of emotion that overcame and flooded Shebet had become familiar,” and how “each one expressed a memory of her friend.”

The small clan of Lottie’s “friends” whose characters have already been introduced in their own individual books have been being developed over time. Their adventures often lead them to learning Biblical and Kingdom principles. They have come together in this, the sixth book of Series Two, to help the devoted doleful dog relocate the flock of sheep. Richardson shares, “We, too, must go forward when faced with hardships. Not only do we have companions to carry us along, we also have The Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, to be with us every step along the way.”

Although the entirety of the book is sixty-one pages, the story itself spans thirty-two pages. A signature format in her books is the supporting pages of King James scripture which backs up the concepts presented. In addition to verses referencing each of the subsections of the Twenty Third Psalm, Marion has included scripture testifying that Jesus is our shepherd.
