Biblical expressions of Praise

One great purpose for man is to praise God who is worthy of all praise and glory. Just a few of the reasons to praise God can be found in 1 Chronicles 16:23. There we are told to praise Him for creation, salvation, His works, greatness, power, and strength. We are told to praise Him for His name, His reign, and His honor. His presence, goodness, mercy, and blessings are more reasons to praise Him as well as His coming judgment.

The Psalms teach us that “whomever offereth praise glorifieth me:” What a powerful instruction for us to praise The Lord.  That praise is defined in Hebrews 13:15 which reads, “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.” Thus, praise is like the nectar of a sweet, ripe fruit flowing from our lips with thanksgiving to the wonderful name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

The scriptures give us a picture of the many expressions of praise found in the Bible. Over the ages, God’s people have stood and praised, they have praised from their knees, with their face to the ground, praised with clapping, dance, song, and shouting. They have lifted their holy hands in praise. They have praised with instruments, mentioning specifically the harp, trumpet, cymbals, and organ.

Those in His courts, those in the sanctuary, those in the gate of His house, those at His footstool, from His holy hill to the foundations of a prison have praised Him. The congregation of people, the assembly of the elders, in the midst of the church, all will sing praises unto the sovereign God, Jehovah.

All creation will praise Him. The angels, His servants, all Gentiles, the heaven and earth, sun and moon, stars of light, pastures, valleys, mountains, forest, beast of the field, dragons and owls, all praise Him. When the multitude of disciples rejoiced and praised God for His mighty works at the mount of Olives, in Luke 19:37-40, some of the Pharisees wanted Jesus to rebuke them. “And He answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.”

It is with immense pleasure that I present one of God’s flamboyant creations, Little Flamingo, as he demonstrates for us what it means for, “every thing that hath breath” to praise The Lord.
