“Little Dove
with Scripture to Introduce Your Child to The Holy Spirit”
by Marion W. Richardson
Simple, colorful, award-winning book makes the character of The Holy Spirit understandable to children of all ages
Sometimes a simple approach does the best job of conveying a profound concept.
In the newly published book titled “Little Dove with Scripture to Introduce Your Child to The Holy Spirit,” Sunday School teacher Marion W. Richardson makes the character of The Holy Spirit accessible to children of all ages.
With simple illustrations, explains this oft-published author, she shows the little dove doing things that the Bible tells us the Holy Spirit does with the intention of helping readers understand how the Spirit of The Lord works.
The colorful yet unembellished illustrations in “Little Dove” show fourteen different actions of a simple dove in its natural element and relate them to those of the Spirit of The Lord. Examples include “Little Dove quenches thirst just like the Spirit of The Lord” and “Little Dove searches for good grain just like the Spirit of The Lord.”
In the second half of the book, key scriptures from the King James version of the Bible offer supporting text that ties together the actions of the dove and The Holy Spirit. In addition, a section with further explanation and ideas offers useful supplementary material for parents and teachers who want to continue with a more in-depth study of this material.
“Little Dove” received the bronze medal in the 2015 Illumination Book Awards contest in the category of Christian Children's Book.
Richardson comments, “It is my desire that young children come to recognize The Holy Spirit in their lives. By identifying and illustrating fourteen actions of the little dove, I have tried to make the character of the Spirit of The Lord more understandable to both young and old.”
“Marion Richardson uses her elegant woodcut-style illustrations and plain-spoken language to express the concept of the Holy Spirit to children. By picturing the dove in all of its daily activities and interactions, she shows how God is with us in every aspect of our lives. Richardson's passion for existing in the glow of the Lord's Spirit shines brightly in this heartfelt combination of artistry and Christian values.” ∼ Jim Barnes, awards director, Illumination Book Awards
